Just spent a long time researching how I can live in New Orleans later in life.  Apparently, Peace Corps and Tulane have a Master’s in Public Health focusing on health systems and development.  I don’t want to leave this town.

I’m in New Orleans right now.  I’m also ready to move here.  Who’s in?

pixies-cant-fly asked: How long did it take you after applying to get your official invite to the Peace Corps? Any stories you can tell me about it would be nice, I'm curious about how it all happens and whatnot (:

I applied in September, nominated in October, and got my invitation in May.  Medical took the longest period of time for me because I got a late start on getting to the doctor, and it took a long time to process. Placement went really quickly though.   Some reason I got to skip my final suitability review.  I think I went through the process rather quickly.  Just be prepared to wait a long time after you submit paperwork to them.  Patience is the key.

I’ll be in New Orleans on Tuesday, but until then, I’m stuck in a hotel in Pensacola. I imagine hell is somewhat similar to this.

I’m dating a cute girl with a southern accent who just passed medical clearance for Peace Corps.  This is the dream.

I’m going to be working in Agroforestry Extension, and I now lack the ability to sit still.  There goes sleeping tonight…

It’s Official

I’m moving to Senegal on September 25th for 27 months to become a Peace Corps Volunteer. It was really hard to not tell anyone until the official invitation came in the mail!!!!!!!!
